Review: Frankie4

When travelling anywhere, you want to make sure you have the right gear with you. Recently, I spent one month in Italy, which I knew beforehand would involve a lot of walking.

Bellagio, Lake Como

In order to have the most enjoyable trip possible and maximise the activities we were able to do, I spent a long time trying to find the right shoes. As we were going in the peak of summer (July), I knew I was going to take my Birks with me. That was just a given. However, I needed some kind of sneaker that would be comfortable, supportive and fashionable.

Portovenere

I have a lot of problems with my back and feet and wanted supportive shoes that would fit my orthotics. Often, this either results in runners, Nikes, or some ugly chunky thing. My other criterion was lightweight, as we’d be travelling. While there’s nothing wrong with Nikes, I had recently had a super light pair that were great, however they only lasted about a year, so I was keen to try something different.

Enter: Frankie4.

Sorrento, Mornington Peninsula

I can’t begin to tell you how much I love these shoes. Not only did I wear them almost every day in Italy, even though it was really hot, I wear them every chance I get now that we’re back home in Sydney.

However, I didn’t always love them.

I did a lot of research into trendy but sensible shoes and had come across Frankie4 on Instagram. I was interested in them as they’re designed by a podiatrist, so I sought out a local stockist and tried a few pairs on. Originally I had gone in to try on the Nat, however they didn’t fit right on my feet. Instead I ended up trying on and purchasing the Jackie.

The first few times I wore them, they hurt my feet. I tried them with their special Frankie4 footbed and I tried them with my orthotics and each time, they hurt. I felt pretty frustrated given that I had spent good money on these and just wanted to find nice looking sensible shoes! Instead of giving up, I thought that possibly, I just needed to “wear them in” given that their outer is leather. THANKFULLY I was right! After a few more times of wearing them, probably around 5 in total, they fit like a glove. Now, I can’t imagine life without them. Don’t believe me? Check out my Instagram. Almost every photo I’m in, I’m wearing my Frankies.

Palm Beach, Sydney

These bad boys have been everywhere with me. From our local beaches to hiking the Cinque Terre, my Frankies are here to stay.

The verdict? I love Frankie4 and definitely recommend them. Just make sure you find a style and fit that suits you and your needs.
